MHP is hiring a full time Staff Accountant who will be responsible for financial preparation, program invoicing, budgeting, bank and account reconciliations, bi-weekly payroll, and general ledger system maintenance.
The position is located at 833 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107 with a hybrid in‑office/work from home schedule, Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. As an MHP employee, you will have access to the following benefits:

What You'll Do
- Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts payables and receivables.
- Review Accounts Receivable and Payable Aging reports monthly to positively impact cash flows.
- Perform bank account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Prepare invoices for funders on a monthly or quarterly basis as required and work to resolve payment discrepancies.
- Manage credit card transactions through the vendor portal and monitor approvals.
- Approve debits in the banking portal for the Representative Payee program.
- Add and edit vendors for the Representative Payee Program.
- Review Accounts Receivable and Aging reports and discuss options with department leads.
- Provide vendor management and compliance support to the agency.
- Produce error-free accounting reports with analysis as needed.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes and participate in monthly divisional meetings.
- Assist Billing staff in preparing and submitting participant billings to appropriate agencies.
- Analyze programs to ensure accurate revenue recognition and allocations; identify errors and suggest efficiency improvements.
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
- Maintain compliance with all MHP policies and procedures and report any violations.
- Perform other duties as assigned to fulfill MHP’s mission.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Accounting or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in accounting.
- Experience with accounting software is required; experience with MIP is a plus.
- Experience in behavioral health services is a plus.
- Experience with Electronic Health Record systems and billing practices is a plus.
- Basic computer skills (desktop computing, e-mail, timesheet management, electronic health records, accounting software, internet research) and the ability to learn new software.
- Advanced skillset in Microsoft Excel is required.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while providing exemplary customer service.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, crisis management, cultural competence, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, customer service, time management, autonomy, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive financial and compensation data.
- Patience, tact, and the ability to work cooperatively with individuals in addiction and/or mental health recovery.
- Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within prescribed routines and standard practices.
