Salary: $18.65 - $20.58
Overview
The Coordinator – Adult Advocacy & ICAN supports individuals in recovery from mental health conditions by facilitating advocacy education, engagement opportunities, and community-building initiatives. The Coordinator represents MHP at CBH hearings, tracks systemic barriers, educates the team on advocacy trends, and supports strategic advocacy efforts across Pennsylvania. This role also plays a key part in ICAN (Individual and Community Advocacy Network), ensuring that individuals with lived experience have access to advocacy resources, training, and opportunities to influence policy decisions, all while promoting MHP’s mission of recovery and advocacy.
What You'll Do
Advocacy & Community Engagement
- Represent MHP and participants at CBH hearings, documenting systemic barriers and reporting trends.
- Facilitate workshops, campaigns, and advocacy education initiatives to empower self-advocacy.
- Organize and coordinate community-building events, legislative visits, and rally days.
- Support relationships with local, state, and federal legislators to promote MHP’s mission and advocacy goals.
- Engage participants in advocacy initiatives such as letter-writing campaigns, call-in days, and town halls.
Strategic Support
- Track advocacy trends from CBH hearings and community feedback; provide regular updates to the Advocacy team.
- Collaborate with coalitions, advocacy groups, and community organizations to align strategies and share resources.
- Assist in developing educational materials including toolkits, fact sheets, and participant guides for advocacy activities.
- Support MHP’s ICAN initiatives by providing operational and strategic advocacy assistance.
Program Operations
- Maintain accurate records of advocacy activities, participant engagement, and outcomes for reporting purposes.
- Coordinate logistical details for workshops, training sessions, legislative events, and rally days.
- Work with the Advocacy and Communications teams to ensure consistent messaging in outreach and campaigns.
Requirements
Entry Level Requirements
- Associate degree in human services, public policy, communications, or a related field required; or a High School Diploma with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in advocacy, community engagement, or public policy.
- Lived experience with mental health or related advocacy is strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to facilitate workshops and engagement activities with diverse groups.
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and other documentation/reporting tools.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within Pennsylvania as needed.
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit, stand, and move around during events and workshops.
- Manual dexterity to use computers and office equipment.
- Capacity to lift up to 15 lbs. and travel to various community locations (some may not be accessible).
