MHP is hiring a Psychiatric Nurse to treat participants in an outpatient community-based setting and/or in the community who are experiencing mental distress or who have a mental health diagnosis. The Psychiatric Nurse coordinates the healthcare needs of persons with mental health diagnoses.
The position is located at 4950 Parkside Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19131, with a part-time 20-hour schedule (TBD – Targeted Case Management's hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, with the opportunity to create a flexible schedule with manager's approval), and an exact hourly rate of $42.00/hr. What You'll Do
- Oversee participants’ medication schedules and ensure the prescribing doctor is notified when a participant is given their final refill.
- Ensure correct medication is administered and give injections as necessary.
- Perform regular health screenings and evaluate participants.
- Receive medication from the pharmacy; accurately document and store medication.
- Participate in crisis intervention activities.
- Work in conjunction with and support other members of the treatment team as needed.
- Network with the community regarding healthcare needs and provide psychiatric nursing services consistent with physician orders and standard nursing practices.
- Function as a consultant and provide education to participants’ non-medical team members and the community when required.
- Assist participants in coordinating primary care visits, and follow-up/discharge planning.
- Engage with participants experiencing homelessness at drop-in centers or on the street, providing onsite health management and education.
- Train participants on medication management.
- Facilitate health education workshops (e.g., illness management, whole health, smoking cessation) as needed.
- Initiate the 302 process as needed.
- Collaboratively document participants' progress in MHP’s electronic health records system and verify data accuracy with participants.
- Perform other duties as assigned to fulfill MHP’s mission.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse required; BA in Nursing preferred.
- Board-certified licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Pennsylvania is strongly preferred.
- 3+ years of nursing experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of psychiatric clinical and psychosocial/psychiatric rehabilitation practices.
- Experience in servicing community mental health facilities and their psychiatric needs is preferred.
- Basic computer skills to perform job duties (desktop computing, e-mail, timesheet management, electronic health records, internet research) and the ability to learn software applications relevant to the position.
- Strong oral and written communication, cultural competence, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, customer service, time management, autonomy, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and exercise good judgment in safeguarding confidential information.
- Self-starter with excellent organizational and anticipatory skills and good follow-up.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines and billable unit requirements while maintaining a positive attitude and exemplary customer service.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands
- Approximately 40% of the Nurse’s time is spent in community settings and/or with participants.
- Sit at a desk with ergonomically appropriate equipment.
- Lift up to 25 lbs.
- Climb stairs.
- Walk around multiple MHP locations and in the community in areas that may not be handicap accessible.
- Must be able to travel within the community: by walking, driving agency vehicles, or using public transportation as needed.
- Frequent talking and listening; must be able to communicate clearly despite possible exposure to loud or vulgar language and hostile gestures.
